Monday 19th November Cup Game

Monday the 19th November 2012 saw the Ross-shire Club A Team visit the Balconie for the second round of the 147 cup. A day out for the semi finals and possible final at the 147 Club in Dingwall, Sunday 25th November, was at stake for both sides.

The team for Tonight's Cup game was Gram, Tom, Ralph, Peeps and Tony. Gram was first to play and an outstanding win for the Team, to start the ball rolling. A fine performance from Gram. Second up to play was Tom, who was not up to his usual form, but to quote a phrase 'Form is temporary, class is permanent', he duly won his game, even though not on his top form. Next up to play was Ralph, and a fine clearance of 4 reds and the black won the game, giving the Balconie Team a 3-0 lead. Next up to play was Peeps, and after a very tight match, Peeps potted the Black but unfortunately the white also potted, giving the Ross-shire a glint of hope. Tony was last to play in the first set of singles, and a win would give the Balconie a cushion going into the second set of singles. Tony duly delivered and won his match, meaning a 4-1 lead for the Balconie heading into the interval.

After the Halftime interval, Tom was first to play, but unfortunately lost his game, closing the gap to 4-2. Ralph was up next and after what looked like an exceptional clearance was going to be completed, unluckily got out of position on his last yellow, and his opponent went on to finish and win the game. The score now sitting at 4-3 in the Balconie Favour, the next game was critical. Gram was next to play and he won his game with some comfort, to re-establish a 2 game advantage for the home team. Tony was next to play, and after a very close game, narrowly lost out to his opponent, to give both team captains the possibility of having to pick a player to play the one off play-off game if the scores were to be tied after the final game. Peeps was last to play, knowing that should he lose his game the play-off would have to be played. After a nervy game by both players, Peeps held his nerve to finish his game, giving the Balconie a 6-4 win, which sets up a semi final against the Ross-shire B Team on Sunday 25th November.

A fantastic win for the Balconie Team, and a good day out to look forward to, this being the second successive semi final so far this season. Well done to all the boys.
